As long as the car you get it from uses the same diameter wheels, it’ll work fine. My particular one came from a FIAT punto. I got it from a car salvage yard but you can buy them on eBay too.
I recommend staying away from the single legged “half scissor” jack as they are less stable. Try to get a normal scissor jack as seen in the kit below.
Instead of just letting it all float around in the car, get a wheel bag, there are loads of types on eBay.
Even at 6’2″ I can still get a wheel in the boot of the 451 behind the driver. It’s wedged nicely and doesn’t move.
On a 450 as well as the 451, you can pull the passenger’s seat forward and tuck the wheel down behind it.
Home Made Tool Holder
The tool holders from other cars are a bit too thick for some narrow smart wheels. So why not make a custom tool caddy to fit the narrow smart spare wheel that you have? Decide the layout of the tools that you require.
Take them all out and position them all in the same way but upside down.
You’ll need a bin liner and some expanding foam
Place the bottom of the bag over the tools and slightly wet the inside of the bag. The water helps the expanding foam to cure properly inside the sealed bag.
Squirt the expanding foam around the outside of the jack. Don’t do inside the jack or you’ll never get it out.
Gather up the top of the bag, poke it through the centre of the wheel and lay the wheel down.
Open the bag up and spray more expanding foam into the bag through the small hole. Make sure you get it into all of the edges for a more even final shape.
Weight the wheel down. I didn’t think that expanding foam could lift a steel wheel but my 1st attempt proved me wrong. It was about 8″ in the air and I had to start again.
In 2 or 3 days it should be totally set. Pull off any bloom that has appeared through the hole, tie the bag up (I used a zip tie) and cut the excess of the bag off to neaten it up. My 2nd attempt wasn’t as even but it will do. The jack will stay there until you need it.
Have a tyre fitted if you haven’t already and consider buying a wheel bag. I bought this one from eBay.
Slide it behind the seat and you are good to go.
